Why shouldn’t we, it’s a rare occasion that all the conditions can align into some sort of perfection. it rarely gets this good and this was around the end of summer, it hasn’t been very good since then. So yeah, the river mouths are fickle spots and it can take years for a good bar to be set up or a decent swell to get in to the bay but when it’s on, it’s on and you have to be paying attention to score it.
I don’t need to give a map, there are websites for that. if you go to swell map or marine weather you can get forecasts for all the breaks in the bay including Awatoto so it’s not so much of a secret.
All i’m saying is you are lucky if you get it good and the keen surfer who is visiting the area doesn’t need much of a nose to sniff this wave out.
