I printed this design on some nice lightweight hemp fabric we had lying aound the store. I thought black would be nice and after printing decided that a couple of cushions could be choice and here we have the result that i’m pretty happy with. I then started pondering whether i should do some more items like this and decided that yes i should. I had a think about branding – apparently i need to have a brand and one that stuck is Aroha&Friends. So there you have it, the humble beginnings of a little product range from Aroha&Friends. Sweet. Now i just have to come up with the rest of the collection.

I like bus scrolls, especially when they have some relevance to me. Well these prints are based on Hastings and Napier bus scrolls and list some of the suburbs in and around the bay. My stop was Camberley, aka Cambodia.

Metamorphose

We have a french frere, Sylvain Descazot, working with us at the moment. He and his partner Anouk are traveling around the country and have landed in the bay doing a bit if woofing in the morning and making art and printing tees in the afternoon. Sylvain has produced works based on his van he has affectionately named Ginnnette.

I have set a challenge for myself for the month of december and that is to create a piece of something everyday this month. it could be some art, a sketch, a screen print… anything really but it has to be everyday… maybe it will help a creative slump or maybe it’s just a good way to get out all these ideas that swim around and take up valuable head space.

Here is the first one that was meant for yesterday. i don’t know what it is called or what it’s about but never mind, i’ve done it now.

Over the past couple of months we have been receiving mystery mail containing customised Aroha Lamour cards and after a bit of detective work have found who the secret postcard person is.. yep the cats out of the bag… Thanks to Alex from the Sunday Project for sending us her series of customised cards. check her blog out to see the collection and also check some of her etsy products. we love her ‘best in show’ prize ribbons and would love to have some in our shop.
