The first time i heard this guy i thought he was black, i was like, is this pharell? For real, i did. You can see what i mean though, especially when Mayer goes into his falsetto. Mayer Hawthorne made a big splash when he released his limited edition heart shaped 10″ of ‘It Just Ain’t Gonna Work Out’, a catchy little break up tune that is as good as they get. And with the release of his follow up 12″ “Maybe So, Maybe No” the anticipation really got me going.

Mayer Hawthorne releases his debut album “Strange Arrangement” in the coming weeks and we have been luky enough to procure a promo copy from the good people at Stones Throw and we think it’s one of the albums of 2009, we have been playing it non stop for the past week. Hawthorne has a talent for writing brilliant songs that are catchy, snappy and with production values straight from the Motown vaults. Hawthorne creates vintage throwback soul for the modern person and it’s a sound i seem to really enjoy in this not so analogue world.
